Lando Norris has to sit out the Chinese Grand Prix after McLaren discovered an electrical problem with his car just before the race. The world champion was set to start the race in Shanghai from sixth position. However, he had to interrupt his preparations when mechanics removed the floor of the MCL40 to check various electrical components.

The team gave an explanation about the intervention shortly before the start. “We had identified a problem on the electronic side, which is why we removed the floor and checked a number of components. We think we have solved the problem and the team is now busy with the final preparations for the race.” Despite that optimism, Norris remained in the garage for a long time while other drivers drove their reconnaissance laps.

Once the pit lane was closed, the Briton was still inside, forcing him to start the race from the pit lane. Ultimately, his McLaren did not move again. It means a pointless day for the team in China; teammate Oscar Piastri was also unable to race.
