That record currently still belongs to Sebastian Vettel, who secured his first title with Red Bull at the age of 23. However, the German emphasizes that records in Formula 1 are meant to be broken: “I would therefore be very happy for him,” says Vettel.

With eight wins to his name, Andrea Kimi Antonelli is well on his way to his very first world title. The young Italian has already achieved one more victory than his more experienced teammate George Russell. If Kimi Antonelli indeed wins the drivers’ championship this season, he will break the record held by Sebastian Vettel. The German became the youngest F1 champion ever in 2010 at the age of 23. The Mercedes driver just turned twenty last August.
‘Records are meant to be broken’
“I would be very happy for him,” Vettel told the media about the possible breaking of his record. “He has had an incredible year. There is that old saying that records are meant to be broken. He still has many years ahead to do that.”

Although he wishes it for the young Italian, Vettel hopes that Kimi Antonelli does not continue to dominate. “I love the sport, so as a spectator I find it very exciting. I would like the other drivers to come back and compete more in the title fight,” said the former F1 driver. “I am independent about it and happy for him, because I know how much work goes into achieving this. But whoever wins, it will be deserved.”
