Andrea Kimi Antonelli came one step closer to his first world title with his recent victory during the Spanish GP. The young Italian now has a lead of 81 championship points over his closest challenger and teammate George Russell. The success at the Madrid circuit followed his recent win at Monza. Kimi Antonelli became the first Italian since 1966 to win the Italian Grand Prix there.
Although mainly tifosi were present at the Monza circuit, the Italians also celebrated the success of their home hero. “The support from the fans during the Grand Prix was incredible,” the Mercedes driver reflects once more, speaking to automoto.it. “It motivates me to try to do even better. The podium at Monza is the most beautiful of the year, and when I heard everyone singing the national anthem in unison and calling my name, I really got goosebumps.”

‘Stay with Mercedes for now’
Although Kimi Antonelli has just started his Formula 1 career with Mercedes, the tifosi secretly hope to one day see their home hero in Ferrari red. For now, however, that is not on the cards. “I feel great where I am now,” says Kimi Antonelli. “I am very happy to be with Mercedes, also because I feel I owe them something for all the opportunities they have given me. They were the ones who believed in me when I was only 12 years old. They have guided me.”
For the Italian, the goal is first to fight for titles with the Silver Arrows. “I hope to achieve many successes with them in the future. Then we’ll see.” Still, Kimi Antonelli does not rule out making a switch to Ferrari someday. “I don’t rule anything out, but for now the goal is to win as much as possible with Mercedes.”
