India continues efforts to return to the F1 calendar: 2027 was previously intended, now there is a new plan for a Grand Prix in 2028. The Indian government has set up a special task force to investigate how Formula 1 and motorsport in the country can be sustainably revitalized.

The task force will look at the main obstacles to the return of Formula 1 in 2028. This includes tax issues, but also the development of Indian motorsport in a broader sense. Representatives from the government, the state of Uttar Pradesh, the Buddh International Circuit, and the national motorsport federation FMSCI are reportedly part of the group according to Indian media.
Problems
Formula 1 was hosted in the country between 2011 and 2013. Sebastian Vettel won all races at the Buddh International Circuit for Red Bull during that time. The Indian Grand Prix then disappeared from the calendar, partly due to financial and tax problems.

A comeback in 2028 would mean that India becomes part of the Formula 1 calendar again after fifteen years. The establishment of the task force is an important first step, but before a race can actually return, a long process awaits. Other countries also desire an F1 Grand Prix, from Thailand to South Korea and South Africa. The competition is therefore fierce.
