The European F1 season is in full swing! After the Monaco GP, Max Verstappen and his colleagues travel directly to Barcelona for the inaugural Catalan GP. This second stop in the European double-header will be held at the well-known Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, although the event is no longer called the Spanish GP; that honor is reserved for the race in Madrid later this year. In 1991, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya first appeared on the F1 calendar. Since then, several memorable races have been held on Spanish soil. In the Netherlands, the track will forever be associated with Max Verstappen’s first victory in 2016, also the first Grand Prix win by a Dutch F1 driver. It remains to be seen what the Limburger can achieve in 2026, now that the race has been renamed the Barcelona-Catalonia GP. After the unique circumstances in Montreal and Monaco, it is expected that the true balance of power will be revealed in Spain.
