George Russell has responded to the international media about the booing during the podium ceremony. The Brit finished second in the Italian GP, behind teammate Kimi Antonelli who won his home race starting from P19. Russell received little appreciation from the Italian fans, but is not surprised by it.

“When you race in someone’s home country, you can expect to be booed,” Russell concludes. “I just laughed it off. I can only congratulate Kimi on his great result.”
“When I looked at the standings during the race, I saw Kimi getting closer and closer,” Russell adds. The Englishman himself struggled to maintain speed. “I had problems all race with that one set I was running on.”
He continues: “I am happy with second place. After the summer break, the feeling is definitely more positive than negative, but of course I would have preferred a win today.”

Russell will want to strike back towards Antonelli next weekend in Madrid. The Mercedes driver is 66 points behind his teammate with ten races to go.
