Just before the summer break, McLaren sets the record straight one more time at the Hungaroring. Lando Norris finishes the final free practice session in front, followed by Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli. Verstappen has to settle for seventh place.

In the final free practice session before the summer break, McLaren gets off to a strong start immediately. Oscar Piastri sets the fastest time, after which teammate Lando Norris overtakes him. Just at that moment, the red flag comes out: the rear brakes of Sergio Pérez’s Cadillac lock up, the car comes to a halt and catches fire at the rear.
With just over half an hour remaining, the field is released onto the Hungaroring again. Lewis Hamilton snatches the fastest time from Norris by nine thousandths. Isack Hadjar rushes to third position.
Just like in previous sessions, the drivers struggle with grip on the asphalt. Regularly, a car goes off track, resulting in thick plumes of smoke from the Pirellis. Max Verstappen also experienced this. The Dutchman was well below the fastest time, but ultimately had to concede time in the final sector due to lack of grip.

Kimi Antonelli has been somewhat invisible all weekend, but now reports at the front of the field in the final phase of the session, with more than six tenths advantage over his teammate. Then Norris and Hamilton really go for it and both dive under Antonelli’s time.
The session ends with Norris as the fastest, closely followed by Hamilton and Antonelli. Verstappen remains stuck in seventh position.
