Sergio Pérez has sharply criticized the current generation of F1 cars after the Belgian GP. According to the Cadillac driver, Spa-Francorchamps once again exposed the weaknesses of the 2026 regulations. On the Belgian circuit, the cars visibly struggled with energy management, causing drivers to lose speed on the long straights. “That’s not Formula 1,” Pérez critically judged.

“I think Spa, with the current regulations, is honestly not a good place for Formula 1,” he reflected to the media in Hungary. “What I saw was not Formula 1. I don’t want to elaborate further, but it was definitely not pleasant.”
Spa-Francorchamps exposed problems
The Mexican also acknowledged that it is still difficult to assess the future direction of the regulations. “Honestly, it’s very difficult to understand these regulations. So until you’ve tried them on a simulator, you don’t know exactly what changes they are considering. And nothing concrete has come of it yet.”

Although Pérez emphasized that the FIA and Formula 1 have already implemented improvements during the season, he believes Spa made it clear that there is still a lot of work to be done. “Honestly, Formula 1 and the FIA have made a huge step forward since the beginning of the year. But of course, in Spa, the problems came to light; it was obvious. And what we saw is simply not Formula 1, and we all have to face that. And that was not good enough.”
