F1 drivers on edge! How many engine parts have already been used in 2026?

In the 2026 F1 season, strict limits on the use of various engine components apply again. If a driver exceeds the maximum allowed number of components, a grid penalty is automatically imposed. This means Isack Hadjar, Lando Norris, and Fernando Alonso are already facing a significant penalty during the race weekend in Belgium. See below for an overview of all used components per driver.

The power unit in 2026 consists of seven components:

  • Internal Combustion Engine (ICE)
  • Turbocharger (TC)
  • Exhaust (EXH)
  • MGU-K
  • Energy Storage (ES)
  • Control Electronics (PU-CE)
  • Auxiliary Components (PU-ANC)

Without penalty, drivers may use a maximum of four ICEs, four exhausts, and four turbochargers. For MGU-Ks, ESs, and PU-CEs, the maximum is three, while each driver may use up to six PU-ANCs.

If a driver exceeds the allowed limit of a certain component for the first time, a ten-place grid penalty follows. For each subsequent exceedance, the penalty is five places. All grid penalties imposed during the same race weekend are added together. If a driver ends up with a total grid penalty of more than fifteen places, he must start at the back of the grid regardless.
