Arvid Lindblad took his first driving lesson after the British GP, he confirmed last week. The 18-year-old Racing Bulls driver made his F1 debut this year but does not yet have a regular driver’s license. During the race weekend in Belgium, he was asked again about his progress. After just one lesson, he is confident that he can take the exam soon. “Although those speed limits still feel a bit strange.”

In an interview with beIN Sports ahead of the Belgian GP, Lindblad gave an update on his driving lessons. “I don’t think I need any more lessons,” he grinned. “I can take the exam now.” His driving instructor is aware of his pupil’s driving talents and had little to criticize. “He just said: ‘Keep an eye on your blind spots, and the rest will be fine,’” said Lindblad.

Still, there are big differences between racing on a circuit and driving on public roads. Lindblad’s first driving lesson also brought some challenges. “It was strange, that idea of speed limits,” laughed the Racing Bulls driver. “The idea that you can only press the accelerator pedal to a certain extent, instead of just going faster, felt a bit weird. I didn’t like that. Fifty kilometers per hour is also painfully slow,” he joked finally. “But yes, safety comes first.”
