Doriane Pin hints at first F1 test with Mercedes: ‘Simulator work is going very well’

Doriane Pin may get her first F1 test with Mercedes. The Frenchwoman has been associated with the German team for some time. Last year, she defeated her Ferrari rival, the Dutch Maya Weug, and was crowned champion in the F1 Academy for the first time. Next season, she will compete in the LMP2 Pro-Am class of the European Le Mans Series, while also performing simulator work for Mercedes. She may soon be able to take a seat in real F1 machinery.

After her title victory in the F1 Academy, Pin was appointed as a development driver at Mercedes. In the simulator, she already impressed the team management, including team principal and CEO Toto Wolff. The Austrian is said to have promised her a test in an F1 car. “Yes, he (Wolff, ed.) said it,” Pin confirmed in the Beyond The Grid podcast. “Of course, we first wanted to wait for the simulator work before taking further steps. But that went well, very well indeed,” she said proudly. “That’s how we came up with the idea to organize a private test.”

Giving it her all

“I am naturally giving it my all, because I want to get that chance to drive the car and show what I can do,” Pin continued. “My goal is to eventually reach Formula 1. So I have to make sure I am completely ready as soon as that opportunity arises.” The 22-year-old Frenchwoman was finally asked if she had already had a seat fitting. “No, not yet,” she replied laughing.

In addition to her work in the simulator, Pin is also focusing on endurance racing in the European Le Mans Series, in which she competes in the LMP2 Pro-Am class. She signed a contract with the French team Duqueine. The opening weekend takes place this weekend in Barcelona. Should she actually get an F1 test, she will follow in the footsteps of F1 Academy director Susie Wolff, who drove a free practice session for Williams in 2014. Aston Martin ambassador Jessica Hawkins was the last woman to test an F1 car in 2023.
