VIDEO | Aston Martin causes a stir, tests with extreme F1 hypercar

Aston Martin went viral this week after footage emerged of a striking test at Bruntingthorpe airfield in England. The British car manufacturer drove a prototype hypercar there that is clearly influenced by F1 technology. The bizarre car, featuring a central open cockpit with a halo, looks like an even more extreme version of the Valkyrie hypercar, which was designed by F1 legend Adrian Newey.

According to social media users, the car, finished in black carbon, is most reminiscent of a Batmobile. With its open cockpit, exposed wheels, and wide front and rear wings, this prototype unmistakably exudes Formula 1 technology. Potential Aston Martin customers are in for a treat: the car is not powered by the flawed Honda engine that Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll currently use in Formula 1. The monstrous sound the car produces seems to come from the same V12 engine that is also in the Valkyrie.

The ‘standard’ Aston Martin Valkyrie is considered the most extreme road car the brand has ever built. At the same time, it is a particularly exclusive model: only 275 units were produced in total. The concept originated during the period when Aston Martin was still a prominent sponsor of Red Bull. Consequently, Adrian Newey was responsible for the design. Partly because of this, the Valkyrie is loved by many F1 drivers. Max Verstappen has also added one to his car collection. A racing version of the car will also compete in the hypercar class of the WEC.
