Bleekemolen: ‘Verstappen will still win often at the Nürburgring’

Max Verstappen got behind the wheel last weekend during the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Starting from P10, he fought his way forward at a furious pace, corner by corner, until he was in the lead. Spectacular, but did he take too many risks? Jeroen Bleekemolen saw it up close. “Yes, he really took risks, but it didn’t go wrong,” says the Nürburgring winner in the latest episode of Formula 1 Paddock Talk.

At the same time, Bleekemolen knows that an attack on the Nordschleife is never risk-free. “Look at the retirement of a top driver like Estre. He couldn’t do anything about it. He drives into a corner and there’s oil. That can happen to anyone. Or take that Dacia that suddenly turns left where you go right.”

Bleekemolen believes that Verstappen would be a feared force on this circuit in the long term. “I do think that if he races this event ten times, he would really win it often. Now he absolutely could have won it.” But those chances also have their downside. “If you drive so close to the limit, sometimes it goes wrong.”
