Nico Rosberg is praising the performances of Kimi Antonelli this season. The German says in a podcast by Sky Sports that the Italian was already in his kart team earlier and that he was incredibly good. According to Rosberg, the new Formula 1 cars also help contribute to the success of the current number one in the standings.

In 2019, Antonelli drove for Rosberg’s kart team and won six international tournaments. Rosberg mentions this when asked about the Italian. “He was in my team and he is one of the very best karters we have ever seen.”
“All greats in Formula 1 have karted at some point like Ayrton Senna, Lewis Hamilton, and Max Verstappen,” Rosberg continues. “Kimi was definitely in the top three of all time in karting. Such talent only comes once per generation and we see that this year.”
However, besides natural talent, there is another reason according to Rosberg why the Mercedes driver is so good this year. “It’s incredible how he is just fast everywhere. I must say that the cars have become easier and that helps him to show his talent faster. It would have been harder if they had still used last year’s cars. Those were more extreme and harder to drive.”

Rosberg has no doubt about Antonelli’s talent. “In the end, he would have made it anyway. The rules have given him a chance to be super dominant and he has grabbed that with both hands.”
