Lando Norris won the last Dutch GP at Zandvoort. The Brit started Sunday from pole position but soon saw victory slip through his fingers; a fast Kimi Antonelli led for a long time. In the second half of the race, however, the reigning world champion flexed his muscles and caught the young Italian. The big loser is home hero Max Verstappen, whose last race in front of his own crowd ended in the first lap. An early crash brought a bitter end to his last Dutch GP adventure.

14:15: About an hour before the Dutch GP is set to start, it is pouring down over Zandvoort. Fans pull out their ponchos in the stands, and tents are set up over the various starting positions on the grid. Initially, it was supposed to stay dry on Sunday, but the weather gods are currently favoring Max Verstappen – a master in the rain. Now it remains to be seen if the rain will continue during the main race.
FORMATION LAP: In the lead-up to the start, the skies have cleared over Zandvoort. On a drying track, all drivers dare to go on slicks. The first four drivers start this last Dutch GP on medium tires, behind them the entire top 10, including Verstappen, is on soft tires. There are clearly some dark patches on the track, but the racing line is dry.
LAP 1/72: The last Dutch GP at Zandvoort has begun! The drivers get through the first corners without major problems. Kimi Antonelli immediately overtakes teammate George Russell, while Charles Leclerc gains two positions; he passes Oscar Piastri and Lewis Hamilton. After some pushing and shoving, Max Verstappen manages to keep teammate Liam Lawson behind him.
LAP 2/72: Red flag and Max Verstappen is out of the race! The Dutchman makes a rare mistake and crashes into the wall exiting the last corner. He writes off his RB22 completely and comes to a stop on the straight. The race is stopped. The four-time world champion is uninjured, but his last home appearance ends bitterly. Liam Lawson has a perfect view of his teammate’s crash and is shocked by the impact. “That was a big hit, is he okay?” is heard over the radio. Gabriel Bortoleto also spins in the Arie Luyendyk corner but manages to keep his Audi out of trouble. He can resume his race but has lost nine positions. Nico Hülkenberg narrowly avoids his Brazilian teammate.
FORMATION LAP: The track is cleared and the drivers begin a new formation lap. However, a new race start does not happen; Oliver Bearman parks his Haas beside the track. “My engine has failed, everything is broken,” he complains to his race engineer. A second warm-up lap follows while the young Brit’s VF-26 is recovered.
LAP 5/72: The Dutch GP at Zandvoort resumes! Kimi Antonelli gets off the line well and passes race leader Lando Norris in the Tarzan corner. This leads to much cheering in the Dutch stands. George Russell also tries to outsmart the McLaren driver but is himself overtaken by a fast Oscar Piastri.
LAP 10/72: Norris manages to keep up with Antonelli on his soft tires. The gap between the leaders is about one second. The young Italian is still on medium tires. Meanwhile, Piastri is not closing in; he has to defend against Russell, who is trying to regain his spot in the top 3. Behind them, both Ferraris increase the pressure.
LAP 19/72: Russell has to let Piastri go; Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton – both on soft tires – are right behind him. He decides to switch his mediums for the hard compound. Piastri also changes to hard tires but makes a slow stop. He returns to the track behind Russell. Antonelli meanwhile begins to extend his lead over Norris. The reigning world champion complains over the radio that he is “going as fast as he can” but cannot keep up with the Italian.
LAP 22/72: Antonelli and Norris enter the pit lane simultaneously. McLaren hopes for a slow stop from Mercedes, but both tire changes go smoothly. Lewis Hamilton leads, but Antonelli virtually retains the lead in P2. Both Antonelli and Norris are now on hard tires.

LAP 30/72: Antonelli has taken the lead again after Hamilton’s first pit stop. Further back in the field, Carlos Sainz – running P9 – is holding up the entire field. On his used softs, he does not let the two Racing Bulls drivers pass. Overtaking remains a big challenge on the dune circuit. Norris is again in Antonelli’s slipstream. The gap is less than one second. Leclerc is on Piastri’s tail; they are fighting for fourth place.
LAP 36/72: The last Dutch GP at Zandvoort is almost halfway through, and Leclerc excites the crowd. With a beautiful overtaking move, he finally passes Piastri in the Hugenholtz corner. He moves up to P4. Hamilton follows his example shortly after and places his Ferrari behind the McLaren on the straight. With a calculated move, he reaches the apex of the Tarzan corner first. The top 10 now looks like this: Antonelli, Norris, Russell, Leclerc, Hamilton, Piastri, Lawson, Hülkenberg, Tsunoda, and Gasly.
LAP 45/72: Antonelli pits again and hands the lead to Norris. He returns to the track in fourth, behind both Ferraris. Hamilton complains that Leclerc should let him pass – his tires are newer. “I’m just losing time,” he shouts angrily. The Monegasque is instructed to make a pit stop but does not come in immediately. When he does change tires shortly after, Hamilton reacts sarcastically: “Well done guys, we just lost a lot of time.”
LAP 53/72: Norris has also made a new pit stop and must again yield to Antonelli. However, he is right on the Italian teenager’s tail. Lewis Hamilton now leads but is on old hard tires. The pit wall asks if he wants to switch to medium tires, which frustrates the seven-time world champion. “You have all the data, figure it out yourselves,” he responds annoyed.
LAP 55/72: Norris is past Antonelli! With a daring overtaking move, he takes the virtual lead in this last Dutch GP at Zandvoort. He immediately encounters Hamilton, who is also passed shortly after. The 26-year-old Brit goes for his second win in the Netherlands.
LAP 56/72: A virtual safety car is deployed; Esteban Ocon’s Haas has broken down. Not a good day for the American team, which now has both cars in the garage. Ferrari opts for a double pit stop; both Hamilton and Leclerc switch to soft tires. Kimi Antonelli also chooses the red-walled tires and returns to the track in third, behind Russell and Norris.
LAP 67/72: Norris steadily extends his lead; the gap to Russell is already over eleven seconds. It is clear that the Mercedes driver is not competing for the win, so the team asks him to give up second place to Antonelli. “Is he fighting for the win then?” Russell asks surprised. “Was he planning to overtake Norris?” Still, he admits: Antonelli moves up to P2. Russell must immediately defend the last podium spot against the Ferrari of his former teammate, Lewis Hamilton.
LAP 70/72: The race is neutralized again by a virtual safety car. After a minor collision between the two Williams cars, there is some debris on the track. Sainz is penalized with a ten-second time penalty. However, the track is cleared quickly enough. The last seconds tick away.
LAP 72/72: The last Dutch GP at Zandvoort is over! Lando Norris wins for the second time at Zandvoort. Behind him, Antonelli and Russell complete the top 3. The latter narrowly managed to keep Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari behind him. With that, he has overtaken his old teammate in the championship standings.
