Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss dismisses recent rumors about a possible move of Formula 2 talent Rafael Câmara to his F1 team. Although the American emphasizes that no changes are currently planned in the lineup, he explicitly keeps the door open for change. Cadillac is racing this season with the experienced Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas, but has not scored any points in the entire first half of the season.

Câmara is meanwhile strongly linked to Ferrari, Cadillac’s engine supplier. The reigning Formula 3 champion is impressing during his first season in Formula 2. Câmara, who races for Invicta Racing, took four of the last six pole positions and won two races. At the time of the summer break, he occupies third place in the championship, 22 points behind championship leader Nikola Tsolov. A move to Cadillac would mean that one of the current drivers would have to make way, with Bottas – given his performances in recent Grands Prix – being the most obvious candidate.
Towriss was asked during a press conference about the possible arrival of Câmara. He acknowledged that Cadillac is thinking about the future but at the same time expressed confidence in the current lineup. “It’s a good question whether a younger driver can take the team to a higher level,” he said. “We are certainly thinking about that. But we also have two experienced drivers whom we are very satisfied with. They help move the team forward and we will continue to support them.” About the rumors around Câmara, the American was clear. “I know there are rumors circulating about a number of young drivers,” he added. “They are not substantiated, so I don’t focus on them. We are not dealing with that at the moment.”

‘Situation in Formula 1 is always changeable’
Still, the Cadillac boss does not want to rule out that the situation may change towards 2027. “I do want to add a caveat,” he said. “It’s Formula 1 and things can always change. There are currently no changes planned for 2027, but nothing is set in stone.” This suggests that a direct switch for next season is currently not on the table, but Cadillac keeps all options open.
New team boss Marcin Budkowski was also asked whether Câmara’s arrival could strengthen the relationship between Cadillac and Ferrari. The Pole did not answer directly and instead focused on the technical collaboration with the Italian manufacturer. Cadillac wants to make the best possible use of the potential of the Ferrari power unit, while the search for the right drivers for the next phase of the project continues. Cadillac has a three-year partnership with Ferrari; the American team wants to develop its own F1 engine and operate as a factory team from 2029.
