The future of Liam Lawson seems to be an important topic of conversation during the summer break. The New Zealander expects Red Bull to hold the first talks in the coming weeks about the driver lineup for 2027. Lawson hopes to keep his place at Racing Bulls, despite the threat from Formula 2 revelation Nikola Tsolov.

So far, there are no signs that Lawson will look for a seat outside the Red Bull family. It is expected that Racing Bulls will also want to call on the New Zealander next season, although competition within the development program is increasing. With Arvid Lindblad and Formula 2 championship leader Nikola Tsolov, Red Bull has several talents, while there are only two seats available.

Lawson, however, has good credentials to keep his place with 43 points from the first eleven races. Although Red Bull traditionally makes decisions later in the season, the uncertainty surrounding Max Verstappen’s future could cause the team to make decisions earlier this year. That would suit Lawson well, as he has previously indicated that he prefers to have clarity about his future as soon as possible.

The Racing Bulls driver expects talks to get underway during the summer break. “I actually have no idea about my future,” the New Zealander told the media in Hungary. “I think those kinds of talks usually take place around the summer break. So I’m sure it will be discussed then.”
Asked about a possible collaboration with Tsolov, team principal Alan Permane also confirmed that Red Bull will make a decision later this season. According to the Brit, the Bulgarian is clearly ‘on the radar’ for next year and is considered ‘the next in line’ within the development program. This promises the battle for the two Racing Bulls seats for 2027 to be an interesting one.
