Just over a year ago, when the seven-time world champion qualified only twelfth in Budapest, he poured his heart out to the press. “I’m useless,” he said somberly. Hamilton’s somber reaction in 2025 marked a new low for the celebrated British driver. His move to Ferrari threatened to turn into a disappointment. The former world champion took responsibility in front of the Sky Sports cameras. “It’s me, every time,” he sighed defeatedly. “I’m just useless. The team has no problems, the other car is on pole,” he referred at the time to teammate Charles Leclerc. “They just need to look for a new driver.”
Feeling of pride
A year later, Hamilton has already secured multiple podium finishes and a victory for Ferrari. Partly because of this, he holds second place in the championship, ahead of his younger teammate. With another Hungarian GP ahead, the 41-year-old emphasized how proud he is of that turnaround. “I’m proud of everyone in the team and certainly of myself too, because I managed to pull myself out of that situation,” he beamed.

“If I ever make a documentary, I will tell you everything about that weekend (Hungary 2025, ed.) and what preceded it,” Hamilton then grinned. “But we’ve picked up the thread again. I’m miles away from where I was last year, and I’m incredibly grateful for that. Moreover, I’m proud of the development we’ve made as a team; all the pieces of the puzzle have fallen into place. As a result, we now have a great car and a complete package with which we can compete for the top positions.”
