Lando Norris qualified on Saturday in P3 for the Belgian GP. The McLaren driver had to yield only to Max Verstappen and polesitter Kimi Antonelli. The reigning world champion lost a lot of time due to a brief excursion into the gravel trap, where he ended up with two wheels off the track. Still, the damage was limited: Norris had already received a grid penalty due to engine parts that McLaren replaced, meaning he will start the race from P12.

“We haven’t changed much, we’re just fast on this circuit,” Norris responded afterwards. “It’s good to be here, but knowing that I’ll be moved back ten places tomorrow is of course a bit of a shame. Besides, it would be nice to be able to fight a bit with these guys,” he said while pointing to Antonelli and Verstappen. “We made the best of it. It was still a good qualifying and I’m quite satisfied with my lap.”

“In the end, it’s also a half home race, that always gives a little boost,” said Norris, whose mother is Belgian. “I still hope for a nice race; let’s make something fun out of it.” Can the Brit make his way forward tomorrow? “That’s the plan,” he laughed finally. “The car feels good and there are plenty of overtaking opportunities. I’m going for a nice show.”
