Cadillac says goodbye to asymmetrical F1 livery: ‘Reflects our strategy’

Cadillac has swapped its striking black-and-white asymmetrical color scheme for a more traditional design. The American racing team chose a distinctive livery for its first F1 season, with one white and one black side on the MAC-26. According to team principal Graeme Lowdon, this decision followed after the special design for the Miami GP was so well received by the fans. Therefore, Cadillac will appear again with a symmetrical livery at the start in Belgium.

The first Cadillac livery was unveiled during a commercial break in the Super Bowl halftime and was meant to immediately make clear that the new team wanted to approach Formula 1 differently. The asymmetrical black-and-white color scheme later gave way to special designs, including a variant with the American stars and stripes during the home race in Miami. That version proved more popular than expected.

“We presented the asymmetrical livery during the halftime show of the Super Bowl because we thought it was a good way to show that the team wants to approach Formula 1 in a slightly different way,” explained team principal Graeme Lowdon ahead of the race weekend in Belgium. “We said we would bring a few new things to Formula 1. I think that was a very positive step and we used that color scheme for a while.”

Philosophy of Cadillac

“After that, we introduced another livery in Miami, which was very well received by the fans. We took those reactions into our considerations,” Lowdon continued. “The color scheme we are now running actually closely resembles that of Miami. In between, we also introduced the special livery for Independence Day.”

According to Lowdon, these changes are not isolated but fit within the broader philosophy of the team. “If you look at the number of color schemes, but also at the number of upgrades we have introduced, we score very high,” he explained. “Again, I think that well reflects how we approached our F1 debut. It was never the intention to just participate; we want to push boundaries. We are not standing still, whether it is developing the car further or experimenting with new color schemes.”
