Red Bull has decided not to use the ‘Macarena’ wing for the Belgian GP. The team made this decision after Max Verstappen experienced crashes twice in a row during race weekends due to the rear wing not closing properly.

Both during qualifying in Austria and during the race in Great Britain, Max Verstappen lost control of his RB22. In both crashes, the rear wing of the four-time world champion was ultimately the underlying cause. The driver lost grip when it did not close properly in the corners. “Super dangerous,” Verstappen himself judged in Silverstone.

Future return?
Red Bull first brought the rear wing to Miami, following Ferrari. The Scuderia already brought a different version of the concept to the test days in Bahrain. After Verstappen’s crash at Silverstone, Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies promised a thorough investigation into the problems with the component. At Spa-Francorchamps, the team is currently leaving the wing aside, but according to The Race, it is not yet ruled out that the rear wing, with adjustments, will be reattached to the RB22 in the future.
