In recent months, Tsolov in particular has drawn attention thanks to several strong performances in Formula 2. At Silverstone, he made history by becoming the fourth driver ever to win an entire F2 race weekend. After his victory in Austria, that also marked his third consecutive win, a first in the history of Formula 2. According to the usual Red Bull path, the 19-year-old driver should move up to the junior team Racing Bulls next season. Earlier, there were rumors that the team had already promised him a seat, although this is strongly denied by the team management.
Luxury problem
According to Coulthard, the current situation is indicative of the success formula of the Red Bull development program. “It’s a luxury problem,” he responded in the Up to Speed podcast. “I think there is always a possibility that if they are satisfied with the others, they place Tsolov with another team. Red Bull is leading when it comes to the investments it has made over the years in motorsport and drivers. Look at what they have put into it and what the current valuations are.”

The Scot therefore does not expect Red Bull to worry about the number of talents it has in-house. “I don’t think they think: ‘We are reaching the limit of what we can afford to invest in this.’ It’s a luxury problem. Keep an eye on that name: Nikola Tsolov from Bulgaria. He drives very well and is also a great personality outside the car. I am looking forward to seeing him in Formula 1.”
