The Ferrari F1 team will have to do without team boss Frédéric Vasseur today during qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix. The Frenchman has been admitted to a local medical center and will remain under observation there for the time being. Ferrari confirmed this in a short statement this morning.

“Fred Vasseur will not be present at the circuit today,” said the Scuderia. “After some medical checks, Fred remains under observation in a local medical center. No further medical information will be provided.” Ferrari does express the expectation that Vasseur will recover soon and quickly return to the paddock.
Strong start
The news comes at a time when Ferrari has had an excellent start to the race weekend in Monaco. In the first free practice, Charles Leclerc was the fastest man on track, ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton. During the second practice, Hamilton turned the tables and set the fastest time, while Leclerc finished second.

As a result, Ferrari is currently considered one of the favorites for pole position in the principality, although Vasseur warned against drawing conclusions too quickly on Friday evening. “From Friday to qualifying and then to the race, it’s still a very long way in Monaco,” said the Ferrari team boss after the practice sessions.
