Aston Martin had hoped for more prior to the season. Team ambassador Pedro de la Rosa admits this, conceding that the British team is currently not where it expected to be. Nevertheless, the former Formula 1 driver sees plenty of reasons to remain optimistic, as new upgrades for the second half of the season are being worked on diligently behind the scenes. “We hope to bring major updates in the summer,” says De la Rosa.

According to Pedro de la Rosa, everyone within Aston Martin realizes that the current results are falling short of expectations. Despite this disappointment, he sees a team that remains motivated to close the gap to the competition. “We are where we are, but we didn’t expect to be here. Behind the scenes, we are busy in the factory. Everyone is working hard, and we hope to introduce major updates in the summer,” says De la Rosa during a press event in Monaco.
‘Right Direction’
Although Aston Martin is waiting for bigger improvements, De la Rosa does see signs that the team is making progress. He points, among other things, to problems that occurred earlier in the season but now seem to have been resolved. “What we have is still a very difficult car. But there are also positive signs. The vibration problems have disappeared, and Fernando Alonso did not complain about his seat during the first free practice. These are small things, but it shows that we are heading in the right direction,” he explains.

Meanwhile, for the drivers, it remains a matter of patience. According to De la Rosa, Alonso and Lance Stroll not only work hard on the track but also make a significant contribution to the car’s development behind the scenes. “It’s difficult when you’re not driving in the position you expected to be in or where you want to be. But the drivers support the team enormously and work hard, both on the track and in the simulator. Monaco is also one of the most difficult circuits in the world. Here you only need one lap to make a difference,” says De la Rosa.
