In the lead-up to his home race in Monaco, Charles Leclerc was the first to officially announce news: he extended his contract with Ferrari for several years. Maranello’s Golden Boy dreamed as a child of working with the Scuderia and remains loyal for now to the team that already feels like ‘a second family’. Colleague Lewis Hamilton, after his difficult Ferrari debut in 2025, has also caught the bug. The 41-year-old veteran is not thinking about stopping anytime soon, he said during the race weekend in Montreal. “I’m staying here for a long time, so get used to it.”

Max Verstappen is less clear about his F1 future. He has hinted several times that the new regulations could push him towards the exit. However, during the race weekend in Canada, mixed signals were heard. “I can confirm that I am staying in Formula 1,” he said ahead of the weekend. When it then became clear that the proposed FIA changes might be blocked by other teams, he hinted again that a departure is not excluded. “If it stays as it is now… we’ll see.” In principle, Verstappen is contracted with Red Bull until 2028, but various exit clauses could end that partnership early.
