Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies admitted Saturday evening after qualifying for the Canadian GP that the team still has a lot of work to do. Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar secured P6 and P7 respectively in the session, well behind polesitter George Russell among others.

“We are three tenths off pole, slightly better than Friday in the sprint qualifying. But this is probably where we belong right now. We are working very hard to close the gap. Although we definitely felt we could have done better with both Max and Isack,” said Mekies.

Mekies continues: “To be honest, we are still very much in the phase of exploring the car. We keep trying things out. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. It certainly gives our drivers extra work, because they basically get a different car every time they go out on track. But the gap has gotten smaller compared to yesterday and that is good news.”
