Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll run the risk of “nerve damage” in their hands in the current Aston Martin car. Team principal Adrian Newey said this on Thursday in Melbourne.

“Fernando has indicated that he can only drive 25 laps, Lance even thinks he can only drive 15 laps,” said the candid Newey. The Englishman made that statement during the remarkable press conference together with Honda, on the media day in Melbourne. Newey explained that it has to do with vibrations.

“The problems with the battery cause vibrations in the chassis. Both Alonso and Stroll have indicated that they also suffer from this in their hands. It means that nerve damage could potentially even occur.” Aston Martin and Honda logically want to prevent that, so according to Newey, a “limited number of laps” can be driven. The question is just how exactly the team will fill that in on Sunday.
