Isack Hadjar is far from pleased with the behavior of his RB22 at the Hungaroring. During Saturday’s qualifying, the Frenchman did not get further than the eighth fastest time. Max Verstappen was also visibly frustrated with the Red Bull; the Dutchman had to settle for sixth on the grid. Hadjar, who was uncharacteristically critical of his car’s performance, also foresees few chances in the race.

“The pace was already worthless during free practice,” Hadjar fumed to the media in the paddock. “We haven’t made any progress, and that really pisses me off. I drove my fastest lap on worn tires, but on a fresh set, I couldn’t get anywhere near that. I don’t understand what they’re doing in the pit lane,” he said, remarkably critically.
‘It really makes me angry’
“We were among the last to go out on track, while I was one of the first to leave the garage,” Hadjar continued, frustrated. “Instead of following Max (Verstappen, ed.), I was overtaken by five cars. Then followed a worthless outlap, because my tires were no longer up to temperature. That really makes me angry. Instead of checking everything properly, we let it completely go to waste. And here’s the result.”

“We start eighth and sixth, so let’s see if we can help each other and gain a few places. But honestly, I have my doubts about that,” he said skeptically. When asked if he was mainly focused on holding onto eighth place, Hadjar responded resolutely: “We don’t give a damn if we finish eighth. We are definitely going to try to attack; finishing eighth is quite easy in that regard. But again, no one within our team is aiming for an eighth place.”
