Kimi Antonelli takes full advantage of teammate George Russell’s retirement in Canada. The Brit started Sunday from pole position but retired in the thirtieth lap due to a technical problem; his Mercedes promptly came to a halt. Antonelli – who challenged Russell several times for the lead during the opening phase – inherited the lead and drove unthreatened to his fourth consecutive victory. In the World Championship standings, he extends his lead further.

Max Verstappen also does well in the standings. With a third place, he scored important World Championship points and achieved his first podium of 2026. Meanwhile, McLaren suffered a big disappointment. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri started from the second row but gambled wrong by starting on intermediates. Both fell back significantly after an early pit stop. Eventually, Norris retired with a mechanical problem, while Piastri saw his chances for points disappear due to a time penalty.
