George Russell created a viral moment in 2023 with his now famous ‘T-pose’. In the then introduction video featuring all drivers, which plays before every Formula 1 session, the stance the Brit took stood out considerably. ‘Born out of boredom’
The Brit explains in a new Mercedes video how the now famous ‘T-pose’ came about. According to Russell, it happened by accident when, after a long photoshoot, he leaned his hands on the walls for a moment. “Ah, the infamous T-pose,” Russell smiles during a Q&A video. “This was the F1 intro I did in 2023. It was not intended at all. It actually came from boredom and fatigue.”

“It was around half past eleven at night. We were doing a long photoshoot and I just placed my hands against the wall, waiting for my next shot, and the producer said: ‘That’s pretty cool’,” Russell continues. “And before I knew it, the T-pose was invented. So I have to thank that man; we need to find out who the director was that day.”
