Alpine has confirmed the appointment of Jason Somerville as the new deputy technical director of the team. Between 2010 and 2011, the Brit already worked at the French racing team, which at the time still competed in Formula 1 as Renault. In 2022, he started as head of aerodynamics at the FIA. After his gardening leave, Somerville can now get back to work at Alpine.

Last November it was already announced that Jason Somerville would exchange his role as head of aerodynamics at the FIA for a job at Alpine. The British engineer had to be on gardening leave for six months before he was allowed to start at the French team. These six months have now passed, and Somerville has started at his new employer. The Brit will work as deputy technical director and will be reunited in this role with general manager Steve Nielsen. The two previously worked together at the FIA.
‘Looking forward to being in the thick of the action again’
“I am really looking forward to returning to Enstone and working in this new role with Flavio (Briatore, ed.), Steve (Nielsen, ed.) and David (Sanchez, ed.),” Somerville said in the official press release. “I have now been away from the competitive world of motorsport within a team environment for a few years and I look forward to being in the thick of the action again, winning milliseconds and fighting with our rivals for points and hopefully also for trophies.”
