Kimi Antonelli narrowly misses out on pole GP Canada: ‘Still fairly satisfied’

He secretly hoped for a sweet revenge on George Russell after all the fuss in the sprint race, but at the last moment Kimi Antonelli still had to give up the pole position for the Canadian Grand Prix to his British rival and teammate. The margin between the two contenders was only 0.08 seconds on Saturday evening. “I am quite satisfied, but there could have been a little more,” Antonelli admitted.

The Italian from Mercedes spoke immediately after qualifying about a challenging exercise. “It is always difficult to put everything together in one lap and it has been hard all weekend here to get the tires into the right window. But from now on the focus is fully on tomorrow’s race,” said Antonelli, who thus sees Russell next to him on the front row.
