During his 24-hour debut, Max Verstappen shares the Nürburgring with no less than 160 rival teams. Among all the amateurs, pros, and GT3 greats is also former F1 driver Timo Glock. The German raced 91 Grands Prix for, among others, Jordan and Toyota. At the Nürburgring, he gets behind the wheel of a McLaren GT3 car, although for the occasion it is equipped with an iconic Formula 1 livery.

Glock, who shares the car with Timo Scheider, Ben Dörr, and Marvin Kirchhöfer, races in the Eifel with the livery Michael Schumacher used on his Benetton B195. The legendary German won his second world title in Formula 1 with this bright blue car, featuring the characteristic Bitburger sponsor logos. Glock’s team, Dörr Motorsport, wants to pay tribute to Schumacher with this color scheme. The German racing team also collaborates with the seven-time world champion’s charity, the Keep Fighting Foundation. Not only is the car finished in the classic style; the mechanics also wear the same blue-yellow overalls.

“We are now working with Bitburger, the beer brand,” Glock said during a press conference ahead of the 24-hour race. “Bitburger sponsored Benetton in 1995 but has not been active in motorsport for 25 years now. We thought: we have to bring them back.” And so it happened. According to Glock, it was immediately clear that Dörr Motorsport would adopt the full 1995 livery. “That color scheme was the only option,” he said proudly. “That’s actually where the story started; that’s how we began this project in December last year.”
