Kimi Antonelli won the Canadian Grand Prix after a nerve-wracking duel with Mercedes teammate George Russell. The two drove side by side for a long time, but when Russell had to retire due to technical failure, the young Italian was able to continue to victory. “It was a fun fight with George and we were driving quite on the limit.”

Antonelli indicated that the wind in turn 10 made it quite difficult on the track. “Because of this, we blocked each other there in turns. We were close to each other and it’s a shame he had problems. Otherwise, this fight could have gone on for a while.” When Russell retired, Antonelli immediately took control.
The victory tastes like more, but Antonelli knows that the competition is not standing still. Russell was incredibly fast this weekend, and the rest are not lagging behind either. “I have to keep improving, because George was extremely fast this weekend. Furthermore, Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull are getting closer and closer.”

Antonelli now wants to maintain his momentum, especially with an eye on the upcoming GP in Monaco. “That one can be treacherous, but we try to be prepared for everything.”
