The European part of the Formula 1 season is over after the Spanish GP and the premier class is heading to Baku. The next race weekend is scheduled there: the Azerbaijan GP. The street circuit in the Azerbaijani capital on the Caspian Sea offers the next challenge for the drivers, thanks to the narrow corners and long straights. With a length of more than six kilometers, the Baku City Circuit is one of the longest tracks on the Formula 1 calendar. Last year, Max Verstappen was still master of the street circuit: in Baku, the Dutchman crossed the finish line more than fourteen seconds ahead of second place George Russell. However, since its reintroduction in 2017, the Azerbaijan GP has been known for its unpredictability and surprising results. Will we see that again this year?

The race weekend in Azerbaijan starts a day earlier than a regular Grand Prix weekend. On Sunday, September 27, there is a national day of remembrance in the country, so the race is held on Saturday. The entire Grand Prix weekend is thus shifted by one day: on Thursday, September 24, the first free practice sessions already take place.
