Laurens van Hoepen failed to score points during the Formula 2 main race on Sunday morning. The Dutchman finished in twelfth place after a lackluster race. Paraguayan Joshua Dürksen won after an exciting battle against Invicta teammate Rafael Câmara. The British team thus achieved a 1-2 in the main race and maximum points. Noel Léon completed the podium in third place.

Van Hoepen started the race fifteenth in his Trident. The Dutchman immediately gained two places at the start and a lap later also passed Roman Bilinski for thirteenth place. At the front, the first few laps saw a swap between Invicta drivers Câmara and Dürksen.
The drivers faced huge DRS trains today, making overtaking very difficult. Not much happened at the start until Colton Herta stuck his Hitech in the gravel trap. The American caused a safety car, but most of the front runners had already stopped, so there was little change in the standings.
After the safety car, Câmara kept the pressure on Dürksen. The Brazilian briefly fell back to a two-second gap after the safety car but quickly closed it. However, he could no longer pass his teammate and had to settle for second place. With this, Dürksen won not only Saturday’s sprint race but also the main race.

A notable moment after the race occurred when Dürksen had to quickly pull his car aside due to a fire in the car. The race winner quickly jumped out of the car, and the flames were soon extinguished by the marshals.
Next week, Van Hoepen must get back to work. Formula 2, like Formula 1, will then visit the new street circuit in Madrid. The main race at the Madring starts on Sunday at 11:25 AM.
