A victory for the Alpine driver would be an even bigger upset than the pole position he secured on Saturday. Can Gasly actually win? “I don’t know,” said Verstappen. “In the race, Alpine often falls back. But it looks strong and you have little tire degradation here. So who knows, it’s possible.”

And Verstappen’s own race? “It depends on how the car feels. If it feels like in the third free practice, then that is different from now after qualifying. If it feels like now, I don’t expect much from it.”
