Lewis Hamilton has fulfilled a long-held dream. The seven-time world champion has purchased a Ferrari F40, one of the most iconic models from the Italian car manufacturer. The 41-year-old Hamilton shared photos of the car on social media on Monday. It is a fixer-upper, as indicated by the British driver’s caption, who nevertheless probably had to dig deep into his pockets for the red showpiece.

Hamilton states that the purchase means much more to him than just adding a special car to his collection. “My own F40. This is the car of my dreams, for as long as I can remember,” Hamilton wrote. “As a child, I dreamed of having one. When I joined Ferrari last year, I made sure to have one with me on my first day in Maranello. That’s how much this car means to me.” Hamilton was extensively photographed with an F40 during his first visit to the Ferrari factory in 2025.

Hamilton’s example could use some love, by the way. “These cars are works of art and incredibly rare, so when I found this one, covered in dust after sitting in a garage for more than thirty years, I knew I had to take it home,” he revealed. However, the F40 is in good hands with the Ferrari driver. He sent his dream car – of which about 1,100 examples still exist worldwide – directly to the specialists in Maranello. “There, the best engineers worked for weeks to bring it back to life. I am extremely grateful to everyone who contributed to this project. This is truly a dream come true.”

Earlier, Hamilton had stated that he had parted with his entire car collection. “I don’t have cars,” he told the press last year during the Azerbaijan GP. “These days, I’m more involved with art.” Yet at the time, he kept one exception in mind. “If I were to buy another car, it would be an F40. But that is a work of art.” The acclaimed Brit is not the only F1 champion with an F40 in the garage. Fernando Alonso was spotted in an F40 last year, and Lando Norris also owns the iconic Ferrari model.
