Residents of Monaco had to blink their eyes briefly last week. For a new Hollywood film – starring Bradley Cooper and Margot Robbie – the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix was brought back to life. Replicas of historic Formula 1 cars drove through the streets of the principality for a prequel to the famous Ocean’s Eleven films.

The previously announced film is therefore set years before the famous Ocean’s Eleven films – starring George Clooney – take place. The story is about the parents of Clooney’s character Danny Ocean. These lead roles are played by actors Bradley Cooper and Margot Robbie.
Part of the film takes place during the 1962 Monaco GP. Race fans could therefore indulge themselves with the recent footage from the principality. It shows replicas of the vintage Formula 1 cars driving through the streets. For five days, cameras rolled at famous locations in Monte Carlo, including Port Hercule, Avenue Princesse Grace, Place du Casino, Portier, and Larvotto.

Bruce McLaren
The Monaco Grand Prix was won in 1962 by Bruce McLaren. The later founder of the team that now bears his name won partly due to the retirement of then polesitter Jim Clark. To what extent this race will be shown in the film is still unclear. The prequel is expected to premiere on June 25, 2027.
