King Willem-Alexander was allowed to present the winner’s trophy during the very last Dutch GP. Although the many fans present had hoped that home hero Max Verstappen would receive it, it was ultimately reigning world champion Lando Norris. “I could also speak Dutch with him,” the king later said.

After the race, King Willem-Alexander was asked by various Dutch media how he had experienced the race. “Of course, it was very unfortunate that we had Max’s (Verstappen, ed.) crash already in the first lap,” the king said. “We had really hoped for a bit more for him. But at least he got out of the car safe and sound and healthy. After that, we still had a very beautiful race.”

According to the king, Lando Norris is therefore a good winner. “I could also speak Dutch with him,” he continued. “His mother is Belgian and he speaks Dutch well. In itself, he was a fine winner. It was a wonderful event and an amazing atmosphere. They have become beautiful memories and let’s cherish them.”
