George Russell is at peace with the fact that there was no more than a second starting position for the final Dutch GP. Lando Norris was just too fast for his compatriot by a tenth, causing the Mercedes driver to start behind the reigning world champion in the last Formula 1 race in the Dutch dunes. For Russell, it is a welcome result after the disappointing Grands Prix before the summer break: “It really feels like I’ve got the taste back.”

After George Russell was able to secure his sprint pole earlier on Saturday, he had to give the coveted first starting position to Lando Norris in the qualifying for the main event on Sunday. The Brit congratulates his compatriot on the very last pole position at Zandvoort. “Lando just did very well,” the Brit says after qualifying. “So I want to congratulate both him and McLaren.”
The Mercedes driver then analyzes the course of his own qualifying session. “It was a strong session,” he explains. “I thought we could fight for the pole position, but in the end, I am also quite satisfied with second place.”

‘Getting the taste better and better’
Russell’s satisfaction comes after he has not reached the podium since the British GP. “I am therefore extra satisfied after all the difficult races just before the summer break,” he continues. “I really feel like I’ve got the taste back, and I’m really looking forward to tomorrow. It’s very nice to drive around here and also to see how everyone in the stands cheers us on.”
