George Russell converted his pole position during the very first sprint race at the Zandvoort circuit. However, many fans could not follow the action live at the circuit due to train problems. As a result, many travelers were still at, among others, Amsterdam Central when the sprint action started. A spokesperson for NS explains how between 07:00 and 09:00 in the morning already 17,000 fans were brought to Zandvoort.

The very last Dutch Grand Prix weekend at Zandvoort is now already halfway through. For the many fans who traveled en masse to the circuit in the dunes, it was supposed to be a nice party for the last time. However, it ended in disappointment for fans who wanted to be on time for the sprint race on Saturday morning. Many travelers were stranded at Amsterdam Central station after a defective train between Haarlem and Zandvoort caused delays.
NS applies a special timetable for the weekend in Zandvoort, the so-called ‘Max Express’, but even a train every five minutes could not reduce the crowd. It was the first time that a sprint race was organized during the Dutch GP, so fans wanted to be at the circuit by 12:00. The many stranded travelers at, among others, Amsterdam Central and Sloterdijk either just made it on time to their spot in the grandstand or missed the first race action since the summer break.

55,000 fans
The crowd is also clearly visible in the NS figures themselves. According to a spokesperson, more than twice as many travelers as last year went to Zandvoort on Saturday morning. Between 07:00 and 09:00 in the morning, more than 17,000 fans already took the train to the Dutch GP. By 13:00, the count was even at 55,000 fans.
