Max Verstappen is not the only Dutch top athlete who has achieved great success on the international stage. For example, cyclist Demi Vollering won the Tour de France Femmes this summer; in a spectacular final stage, she outpaced competitor Katarzyna Niewiadoma. However, this week she was back in the Netherlands. Ahead of the Dutch GP, Vollering visited the F1 paddock, where she presented Verstappen with a special gift.
Vollering rides for Team FDJ United-SUEZ, which has found a major new sponsor in Red Bull since August. As a result, the 29-year-old cyclist was at the Red Bull motorhome on Thursday. There she met Max Verstappen, who will participate in his last Grand Prix on home soil in a few days.
Verstappen was presented with a special gift there. Vollering gave him a yellow jersey from the recent Tour de France, including her signature. Verstappen was visibly impressed by the gift and also admitted that he has closely followed her performances. “I have seen everything,” he said enthusiastically. “Everything was, of course, very close, but in the last two stages it was very clear. Especially that last stage was beautiful,” said the four-time world champion. Watch the footage below.
