Official: Alex Albon extends contract with Williams until 2027

The first bullet is through the church: Alexander Albon has extended his contract with the Williams team until 2027. The team itself announced this on the Tuesday before the Dutch GP at Zandvoort. The driver has been racing for the British team for five seasons – and during that time has started more than a hundred Grand Prix on behalf of Williams.

Alexander Albon started at Williams in 2022. The team describes the decision by both the driver and the team to continue the collaboration as ‘a clear sign that both parties have confidence in the progress in the long term’. Albon was eighth in the drivers’ championship in 2025, but a year later is in sixteenth place. The British Thai made history at the last GP in Barcelona as the Williams driver with the most race starts to his name. Albon thus broke Nigel Mansell’s record.

‘Our story is not over yet’

“Since I joined Williams in 2022, the transformation this team has undergone is hard to put into words,” Albon himself says in the official press release. “One difficult year (2026, ed.) does not give the full picture, and it only motivates me more to continue building and pushing forward with the team and our fans to achieve great things. Our story is not over yet, so I am now fully focused on everything needed to get us back higher on the starting grid.”

Team principal James Vowles is also happy with Albon’s contract extension. “I am delighted that Alex and Williams continue our extraordinary journey together. Alex has been a driving force behind this transformation project from day one and we still have many unfinished business that we are determined to complete. Alex is one of the best drivers on the grid and knows better than anyone the huge progress we have made in recent years – extending his contract shows that we both have confidence in the direction we are heading.”
