Nico Hülkenberg is already looking ahead to a ‘special’ final Dutch GP in the dunes of Zandvoort. The German driver – who grew up in Emmerich near the Dutch border – actually started his motorsport career in the Netherlands. “Because of that, I have always had a close bond with the country and the people there,” Hülkenberg explains. The Audi driver also hopes to score points during the last Formula 1 race at Circuit Zandvoort.

After six editions, the Dutch GP will come to an end on the Formula 1 calendar. In 2021, the circuit in Zandvoort returned to the top class after 36 years, but last year the organization itself decided to pull the plug on the Dutch Grand Prix. A shame, says Audi driver Nico Hülkenberg as well.
“Zandvoort has always been a special race for me,” the German driver says in Audi’s preview. “I grew up just across the border and also started my motorsport career in the Netherlands. Because of that, I have always had a close bond with the country and the people there. It is a classic old-school circuit and the Dutch fans always create an incredible atmosphere. The fact that this will be the last Dutch Grand Prix for the time being makes it even more special.”

‘Continuing from where we left off in Budapest’
Audi travels to the very last Dutch GP after a successful race weekend in Hungary. Hülkenberg finished ninth at the Hungaroring, securing much-needed championship points for the German team. “Scoring points in Budapest was a great way to go into the summer break. In recent weeks, everyone has had the chance to recharge, and now the focus is fully on the second half of the season.” The driver also hopes to repeat that feat in the Netherlands: “Hopefully, we can continue from where we left off in Budapest and deliver another strong weekend.”
