All of Spain enjoyed a total solar eclipse last Wednesday evening, a rare natural phenomenon. Around half past eight, the moon completely covered the sun, and it became pitch dark in many places. A popular location to enjoy the solar eclipse was the brand-new Madring circuit, which will host the Spanish GP in September. “A unique setting,” the organization responded.

Above the newly erected stands and the Madrid skyline, the solar eclipse provided a beautiful backdrop. From La Monumental, the natural phenomenon was also beautifully captured. The impressive bowl-shaped corner is the calling card of the new circuit. “With a length of 547 meters, a banking angle of 24 percent, and a capacity of more than 50,000 spectators, La Monumental has already established itself as the symbol of the new Spanish Grand Prix, even before the cars have driven over it for the first time,” the organization reported on Thursday.

The Spanish GP has been held again in the capital since this year. Madrid takes over from the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which will now host the Catalan Grand Prix every two years. The new Madring is a semi-street circuit; the cars partly drive on public roads, while large parts of the track have been specially constructed. The site is still under construction, awaiting the first race weekend on September 12 and 13.
