Lewis Hamilton has reflected on his 2026 season so far. The Brit was able to turn the tide during the first Grands Prix of the current season, after a difficult debut season at Ferrari. Hamilton himself said about his first half of the season: “Maybe I performed slightly above average”.

Lewis Hamilton had a difficult debut year at Ferrari in 2025, but with several podium finishes and a first victory in the distinctive red of the Italian racing team, he has turned the tide again. The Brit came first across the finish line during the recent Grand Prix in Barcelona. “All wins are special, but this one is on another level,” Hamilton said when asked about his 106th victory.
‘Slightly above average’
The summer break has now begun. The Brit himself looked back on the first half of the 2026 season just before this pause on the Formula 1 calendar, and gave an assessment of his performances so far during the recent Hungarian GP.

“Maybe I performed slightly above average,” the seven-time world champion said to various media. Hamilton is now also second in the drivers’ championship, behind Andrea Kimi Antonelli, but the Ferrari driver was just as modest about his title chances. “I focus on one race at a time. I just try to figure out how to make the most of each weekend, so I generally don’t think about the races still to come.”
