Former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya does not see Lewis Hamilton becoming world champion for the eighth time. The Brit has now secured his first win in the Scuderia red after a disappointing debut year at Ferrari and is currently second in the drivers’ championship. According to Montoya, however, this improved form of Hamilton translates more into a postponed retirement than another title: “If Ferrari continues like this, Hamilton will not leave.”

After a disappointing first season at Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton is now back in the game. Since the last Chinese Grand Prix, the seven-time world champion has stood on the podium several times for Ferrari and even took the top step after the race in Barcelona. Hamilton is currently second in the drivers’ championship, although the gap to championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli – fifty points – is still considerable.
According to former driver Juan Pablo Montoya, an eighth world title for the Brit is no longer in the cards. “I don’t think he will become world champion again,” the Colombian told Express Sport. Yet Montoya praises Hamilton’s results this year. “His performances show that he is on the right track,” he continues. “It shows that Ferrari is on the right track and that they are doing fantastic work. They are very smart in their strategies. And that is really great to see.”

Retirement
The former driver also thinks that Hamilton will continue to drive in Ferrari red for the time being. “Hamilton will definitely not leave in the next two or three years,” Montoya said in an interview with AS Colombia. “If Ferrari continues on the same path and Hamilton keeps performing like this, Hamilton will not retire.”
