VIDEO: Alex Albon causes hilarity with Red Bull joke: ‘Everyone is fired at this point’

It is the summer break again in Formula 1, which also means the return of the Grill the Grid series. In the videos, current grid drivers are given a quiz about the present and past of the premier class. In the first episode of this season, drivers had to guess the career paths of colleagues and veterans. Alexander Albon stole the show when he made a joke about his former employer Red Bull.

For the tenth year in a row, Formula 1 is testing its drivers in the Grill the Grid series. In the videos, drivers are asked to take on various challenges. One of the challenges this year – during the tenth edition of the online series – was to identify drivers based on graphs of their career paths.

The challenge proved quite difficult for the current drivers: several drivers did not immediately recognize the career path of four-time champion Max Verstappen and several others. However, it was Alex Albon’s self-deprecating humor that stole the show.

‘Everyone has been fired at this point’

The sheet showed the old Toro Rosso logo followed by that of Red Bull. The correct answer to whose career path this was, of course, was Max Verstappen, but many drivers struggled to come up with the name of the four-time world champion. “Is that Hadjar?” asked Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Pérez before they eventually got the right answer. Albon also had trouble guessing the correct answer.

The British-Thai driver then joked after he finally gave the correct answer: “There is actually no driver who has had this. Everyone has been fired at this point,” referring to the Red Bull logo. The current Williams driver still managed to score 21 points during the quiz, placing him – together with Max Verstappen – in second place, behind George Russell and Oscar Piastri.
