Oliver Bearman is convinced that he can win races in Formula 1 in the future. The Haas driver draws confidence from the performances of Kimi Antonelli and Isack Hadjar, two drivers he regularly competed against in the junior categories and who are now competing at the front in the premier class. Given Haas’s current performance, the Englishman cannot yet measure himself against his peers. Therefore, he hopes to eventually make the move to the ‘dream team’ Ferrari.

Bearman is having a solid season at Haas but currently does not have a car with which he can consistently fight for podium places. The Brit is thirteenth in the championship after eleven races with eighteen world championship points, while Haas has dropped back to seventh place in the constructors’ championship. Meanwhile, his former Formula 2 rivals Antonelli and Hadjar are fighting for much higher positions. Antonelli leads the world championship, while Hadjar scores points almost every race weekend.
In the F1 Beyond The Grid podcast, Bearman was asked whether the performances of his former competitors give him the confidence that he can also fight for wins with the right material. “I draw a lot of confidence from that, and that is probably the reason why I can sleep well at night,” joked the 21-year-old Brit. “Kimi (Antonelli, ed.), but also Isack (Hadjar, ed.), those are guys who perform incredibly well and are also incredibly fast.”

According to Bearman, the performances of Antonelli and Hadjar prove that he himself also has the necessary talent. “For me, that proves that I have it in me, because I raced against these guys during my junior career and always held my own. That means to me that it is only a matter of time. I am not in a hurry, but as soon as I get a car with which I can win races, I will also win races.”
The 21-year-old realizes that his current results largely depend on the material he has. “For me, it is purely about my own performance, because I have no control over how fast our competitors are. And we also do not always have influence on how competitive our own car is.” According to Bearman, that is also the only way to ever secure a coveted Ferrari seat. The Brit is still part of Scuderia’s development program and has repeatedly emphasized that it is ‘his dream’ to one day race for the Italian team.
